Another city council member turning the page
Chattanoogan.com has the full statement from Third District Chattanooga City Council member Dan Page, who is not running for reelection in 2009.
Page's announcement follows that of Ninth District representative Debbie Gaines.

This next 4 years are going to be a real mess in the city. Just looking at the facts:
1. We have a school budget shortfall of >$10 million due to the BEP mess.
2. We have a downturn in the economy, which has lowered property values and will cause a drop in property tax revenue, which is needed for the schools.
3. Then the tax increase needed to fund the VW fiasco.
It makes sense they are dropping like flies. The next City Counsel members are going to have a mess on their hands.

I'm kinda curious as to why Page is resigning.
Either way I think we should see it as a good thing that some of our officials are willing to step down when they feel they aren't up to the challenge (as gid suggests) or feel like they've accomplished everything they can in office.
It'll be interesting to see who steps up to the plate in both districts.
