The Last Day of Summer
That strangely calming electric sensation in the air is probably a combination of today's New Moon and tomorrow's Autumnal Equinox. (Disclaimer: I'm not a licensed astrologer.) Seriously, though, it seems as if even the campaigning has calmed a bit in the last couple of days.
The glaring exception, of course, is the Bryson for Governor ad that all but the most devout are calling a major misstep.
When I don't have a toddler in my lap I'll try to round up some links. Meanwhile, Summer slips away quietly under a drizzly grey shawl..

Here's a small bit of potential good news for Tennessee Repubs next year. The Democrat County Mayor of Madison County Jerry Gist announced he's going to run for Mayor of Jackson next May. The seat is open because the current longtime Mayor is retiring. If Gist wins, the Madison County Commission would appoint his replacement until a special election could be held in August 2008. It just so happens that commission is dominated by Repubs so they will naturally appoint one of their own. Former Fred Thompson aide John Newman and current Madison County GOP Chair Gary Deaton would be the leading candidates to be appointed as Mayor of Madison County. Also another bit of good news for the GOP, next Saturday in Lousianna they will elect the first ever GOP State Insurance Commissioner. No Dems filed to run for this seat. I'm headed off to Illinois on business so I'll pick up some good Democrat news and post it the next time I'm on here.
