Albertini Arrested for Public Intoxication

UPDATE 3: No Silence Here corrects the earlier KNS misprint and tells us that Albertini was indeed found guilty of the public intoxication charge. Read comments from John Farmer below, too: he's not the only one who smells something in this whole affair. It's no secret that party insiders wanted to avoid any obstacles to their boy Bryson getting the nomination; but would they stoop to a set-up in order to rid themselves of the opposition? One angle of the story that needs MUCH more clarification is why Albertini A) wasn't invited to speak at a rally for GOP gubernatorial candidates (he is one), and B) why he was asked to leave said rally by two police officers. What?

UPDATE 2: A.C. does some checking and uncovers a story that needs a lot more explanation. I'll keep you updated as I am able, but VolunteerVoters should have the latest as this develops.

UPDATE 1: Michael Silence notes that the charge has been dropped.

Rob Huddleston posted the first account of this, and I saw it last night, but waited to learn more detail before posting.

Chattanoogan Mark Albertini, Republican candidate for Governor, was arrested after a rally in Knoxville.

More from the Double D, the Double V, and their source, the Tennessean.

This is an unfortunate development in several ways. I don't agree with Albertini's social-conservative positions, but I admire his spirited [how obtuse of me not to see that pun earlier] campaign against latecomer and "chosen one" Jim Bryson.

(I don't have a viable candidate for whom to vote in this election. My friend Howard is running a no-illusions campaign as a Green, and David "None of the Above" Gatchell is doing a valuable thing by raising NOTA awareness, so I'll likely end up deciding between those two.)

This is an incredible betrayal of everyone who has donated to and worked in his campaign. Such a shame. I hope he gets the help he obviously needs.

(I'm having a hard time squaring your support of Howard with your public endorsements of Corker, who is so eager to win (buy?) himself a Senate seat, he's denied the science of global warming in his effort to please the corporations and right wingers who might help him close the deal.)

Internal conflict duly noted. ;-) We'll talk sometime.

I'd chalk it up to "individuality," a trait not commonly embraced by the political status quo.

None of this really matters. Bryson will be the nominee and he will lose to Bredesen by a 53-47 type margin. Rove and Bush will drag Bryant and Hilleary to a TV camera two weeks from today and force them to declare their everlasting love for Mr. Corker and then Joe's man will go onto win in November by a 55-45 margin. Harold Junior has just got too much(his family) to overcome to win and a lot of these GOPers you see on the net who are claiming they will sit out in November if Corker wins the primary are just blowing smoke. Trust me the thought of a Ford from Memphis being elected to statewide office is even more frightening to GOPers than being forced to watch Rosie O'Donnell and Cindy Sheehan buck dance in bikini's to that old Billy Ray Cyrus song Achy Breaky Heart.

Rob, I posted a few questions that you and Joe Lance may be able to look into over the weekend. This thing is starting to smell a little. Perhaps you guys can pull the arrest record and talk to some folks and get them answered.

1. Who called in the complaints?
2. Did anyone actually see him drinking at the event?
3. Was anything found in his car?
4. Why were no tests done?

If you guys can answer these questions for us I think it would go a long way towards learning what actually happened (the truth).

If Mark was indeed intoxicated, then he should withdrawal. But if this is a set-up, then we need to know that too.

Thanks...John

Joe, the first is a copy of what I left for Rob. This story may be bigger than first read, and the two of you are positioned to find the truth. Was this indeed just a case of Mark having one too many, or was he set up? A lot of loose ends.
