Friday Clippings
Latest announcements by those running for re-election in Hamilton County:
District 6 Commissioner Lou Miller (um, there was an article about Lou Miller's decision on Chattanoogan.com, and now I can't find it). (UPDATE: Now it's back. Weird.) Criminal Court Clerk Gwen Tidwell
I just saw ADA Strong in a downtown restaurant, but I declined to bother his lunch with questions about a possible run for the bench.
Ethics watch:
lots and lots of blogposts about Rep. Lois DeBerry and the General Assembly's ethics panel. A judge refuses to dismiss charges against Sen. Crutchfield. The Hamilton County Commission will vote next week on some pretty impotent-looking "ethics guidelines." (I haven't seen the text on which they'll actually be voting, but if the items on Chattanoogan.com are all that could be distilled from it, it can't be that meaningful; and who in the world would vote "No" on such innocuous drivel? (I would, in the interest of replacing it with substance.) It seems a waste of time.)
More election stuff:
I will write a follow-up post to this clipping, because I fully intend to assist David Moon on his quest for answers from the US Senate candidates. Read Bob Linehart's brief but excellent endorsement of Bob Corker, which is posted as a reply to David Moon. The Pulse's latest article on Corker is being given some blog treatment. I have some issues with the article, but not the time to present them here. The Bryant and Hilleary crowds are edging closer to political fratricide. (See comments.) This is likely good for a mainstream candidate like Corker, to have his two main rivals, with their small factions and smaller pocketbooks, duking it out over which is the most "conservative." (Definition time: Conservatism isn't measured by how radical one's positions on social/religious issues are.) The HamDems are looking for a few good candidates to run against now-entrenched Congressman Zach Wamp.
Finally, what every nerdly friend I've ever had has been waiting for is here.
